This programme, which is open to all our students in any secondary school, is a voluntary activity that is organised by the association in charge of protecting the environment in Extremadura, ADENEX, which is also supported by the Junta de Extremadura.
As it is done every year since 2003, and due to the fact that some forests were accidentally burnt in Extremadura, ADENEX organises some reforestations in the different areas that were affected in our region, such as Sierra de Gata, Hurdes, Valle del Jerte, Valencia de Alcantara, Canamero, Villuercas/Ibores, Siberia Extremena, etc. These actions take place in periods of three months (from January to March) with the purpose of planting trees in those aforementioned areas. For this reason, ADENEX has instructors and professionals who offer their help, in an altruist way, to those voluntaries who collaborate with them.
Thus, and taking into account the positive consequences derived from this activity, it can be said that our students' participating in these kinds of activities is one of the best ways so as to educate our students and transmit some values to them such as tolerance to the environment and the people who work with us so as to have a better world in the future. As a result, this activity is enormously profitable due to a threefold reason
Our students will work with another classmate and in a big group at the same time. Thus, we will reinforce the importance of team work and cooperation, as well as tolerance to those people whose physical capacities are not the same as ours.
With the activities that are going to be previously done in the classroom, our students will become conscious of the fact that one individual action may help to the achievement of one of our aims or objectives. In other words, our students will learn that the action of just one person may contribute to the preservation of the environment and, in the long run, to have a better world.
The introduction of a crosscurricular topic that is included in our syllabus and a practical way to learn it, which will contribute to a significative learning process.
